The recommended salt intake by the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans aged 14 to 50 years old is up to 2,300 mg per day. People who are over 50 years old and have health conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes or chronic kidney disease are restricted to 1,500 mg of salt per day.
